2004 Maka Flora Summer Field Trips
Everyone Welcome!
Saturday, May 29, Prairie Potholes. We will preview this habitat in preparation for our chapter’s hosting of the 2005 state meeting. Meet at the Comertown park at noon. Easy hiking.

Saturday, June 12, Medicine Lake Wilderness: Prairie Lake and Sandhills. This hike is co-sponsored with the Montana Wilderness Association. We will travel by car around part of the Medicine Lake National Wildlife Refuge (good wildlife-viewing), and then hike into the sandhills. These rolling dunes have unique flora and fauna, including cactus, so sturdy leather boots are advised. An easy to moderate hike of 2-3 miles. Bring binoculars. Group size will be limited to about 15, and registration is required by May 29. Contact Bev Hancock (MWA) at 406-656-3317. Meeting time and place to be announced. A potluck dinner will follow.

Sunday, June 20, Devil’s Canyon (across the Yellowstone River from Savage). An easy to moderate hike through some rugged badlands terrain. Meet at the Sidney McDonald’s at 2 PM. A solstice party/potluck will follow.

Friday-Sunday, July 9-11, State Meeting in Red Lodge

Saturday, August 7, Snake Butte. We will tour the prairie badlands north of Bainville. Easy to moderate hike. Meet at the Welcome Stop gas station, Highway 2 at Bainville at 10 AM.

Hope to see you out this summer! For more information contact Beth Madden (789-2266), Doug Smith (765-3411), or Becky Kallevig (488-5455).
